Is there a blood shortage in Africa?
A: Yes. Less than 1% of eligible Africans donate regularly, leading to chronic shortages.
Can I donate while menstruating?
A: Yes, if you feel well and meet hemoglobin levels.
Who can donate blood?
A: You must:
✔️ Be 17–65 years old (varies by country)
✔️ Weigh at least 50kg (110 lbs)
✔️ Be in good health (no infections, recent surgeries, or chronic illnesses)
Can I donate if I have tattoos or piercings?
A: Yes, after 6 months (ensures infection safety).
Can HIV+ individuals donate?
A: No. For recipient safety, HIV+ individuals cannot donate.
Am I Eligible to Donate?
Healthy adults aged 18–65 years, weighing at least 50 kg, with normal blood pressure, free from infectious or chronic illnesses, not recently pregnant, tattooed, or operated on, and feeling well on the donation day, are eligible to donate blood.
Does donating blood hurt?
A: You’ll feel a quick pinch (like a mosquito bite) when the needle is inserted. The process itself is painless.
How long does it take?
A: 30–45 minutes total (10–15 minutes for the actual donation).
What should I do before donating?
A:
✔️ Eat a healthy meal (avoid fatty foods)
✔️ Drink 500ml water before & after
✔️ Bring ID (required for registration)
Q: Can I exercise after donating?
A: Avoid heavy workouts for 24 hours. Light walking is fine.

After Donating
Q: When will my blood be used?
A: Most donations are used within 2–3 weeks. Emergency blood may be used the same day.

Q: What if I feel dizzy after donating?
